Clinical findings from two studies evaluating the performance of Nuance Audio Glasses demonstrated consistent benefits in users’ laboratory and real-world listening experiences.
Nuance Audio Glasses are EssilorLuxottica’s all-in-one open-ear hearing solution built into smart eyewear and intended for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss. In one study, researchers at Western University, Canada, demonstrated up to 29% improvement in speech understanding in challenging acoustic conditions and significant reduction in listening effort, as measured through standardised rating scales. Closer to home, Australia’s National Acoustic Laboratories found a 3.48dB increase in signal-to-noise ratio, a clinically meaningful improvement in speech intelligibility in noisy environments. Improved communication ability was reported by 70% of participants after only three hours of real-world use.
Taken together, the findings show a coherent trajectory, from measurable acoustic improvements in controlled laboratory conditions to meaningful real-world communication benefits, said Dr Tami Harel, chief of audiology of Nuance Audio. “One insight stands out across both studies: users prefer to wear Nuance Audio Glasses in the real, noisy conversations that matter most to them. These results mark an important achievement, in terms of the post-market clinical validation of the product for early-stage hearing support.”
The results were presented at the 69th European Union of Hearing Aid Acousticians Congress in Hanover, Germany, as part of the official academic programme.
